Kuwait 'foils al-Qaeda terror plot'
Kuwait has arrested six suspected al-Qaeda members who plotted to attack a US military base and state security offices in the country, the country's interior ministry has said.
The Kuwaiti suspects were being interrogated on Tuesday over the plot to attack Camp Arifjan, which lies in the desert south of Kuwait city, the capital, close to the Saudi border, the ministry said.
"Security forces were able to dismantle a terrorist network of six nationals belonging to al-Qaeda that was planning to bomb Arifjan camp, state security headquarters and other buildings," the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
About 15,000 US soldiers are stationed in Kuwait, the oil-rich Gulf state, which is also used as a transit point for thousands of US soldiers going to and from neighbouring Iraq.
