Muslims worldwide condemn Nigeria church bombings
Muslim organizations worldwide have condemned bomb attacks on three Nigerian churches during a Christmas Mass, saying the attackers do not represent true Islam.
"We condemn the unconscionable and inexcusable attacks on Nigerian churches and offer sincere condolences to the loved ones of those killed or injured,” the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said in a press release obtained by OnIslam.net on Monday, December 26.
"Only a strong demonstration of interfaith unity will show those behind the attacks that they will never achieve their goal of dividing society along religious lines."

Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago condemns Norway bombings
(Chicago, IL -7/23/2011) - The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago condemns the acts of violence in Utoya and Oslo Norway, where both cities were targeted within a couple hours, and sends condolences to the victims and their families affected by such actions. Reports state that 80 lives were lost in the shootings in Utoya, where a youth camp was taking place and 7 lives in the bombing in Oslo in the city center.
The Council evokes the Holy Quran’s unequivocal condemnation of murder, which states:
"If anyone slays a human being . . . it shall be as though he had slain all mankind; whereas, if anyone saves a life, it shall be as though he had saved the lives of all mankind.” (5:32)
"This is a senseless act and we are horrified at the violence against innocent people", said Ahlam Jbara, Associate Director CIOGC
"The Muslim community in Illinois stands in solidarity with the Norwegian people in this tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences go to the families of the victims and to the leaders of Norway. We condemn in the strongest terms these acts of cowardice for which there is no justification", said Dr. Zaher Sahloul, Chairman CIOGC
The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (www.ciogc.org) is a federation of over 50 mosques, Islamic schools and other Muslim organizations throughout the state of Illinois. The Council's member organizations collectively represent over 400,000 Muslims. The Council works to coordinate the activities of our member organizations as well as provide education, training, networking and advocacy to and on behalf of our member organizations and the Muslim community. Among the Council’s top priorities is to promote civic engagement among American Muslims towards the common good.

Portland's Somali Muslim community unites to condemn alleged bomber
After an attempted terrorist attack was foiled Friday in Portland, Ahmed Ali wants only one thing: to tell the world that the portrait alleged attacker Mohamed Osman Mohamud painted of the Somali community is far from the truth.
"He ruined it for everybody," said Ali, 24, of Portland, as he stood outside Hashi Halal Market, a Somali grocery store owned by his brother in North Portland. "We are against it. Our religion says we cannot kill innocent people. This is the reason we left Somalia."
As news spread of Mohamud's alleged plan to detonate a bomb during Portland's annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Pioneer Courthouse Square, it sent shock waves throughout Portland's Somali community. Many, like Ali, asked themselves how a teenager from a well-known and progressive family could have chosen such a dark path.

U.K. Muslim group condemns terrorism
A leading Muslim organisation in Britain has issued a fatwa against suicide bombings and terrorism, declaring them un-Islamic.
Minhaj-ul-Quran, a Sufi organisation based in East London which advises the Government on how to combat radicalisation of Muslim youth, will launch the 600-page religious verdict tomorrow. It condemns the perpetrators of terrorist explosions and suicide bombings.
The document, written by Dr Muhammed Tahir-ul-Qadri, a former minister of Pakistan and friend of Benazir Bhutto, declares suicide bombings and terrorism as "totally un-Islamic". It is one of the most detailed and comprehensive documents of its kind to be published in Britain.
The fatwa, which was released in Pakistan last month, uses texts from the Koran and other Islamic writings to argue that attacks against innocent citizens are "absolutely against the teachings of Islam and that Islam does not permit such acts on any excuse, reason or pretext".

Local Muslims Decry Ft. Hood shooter
Leaders of Chicagoland's Muslim community gathered here Saturday evening to celebrate, but they could not ignore the fact a fellow Muslim is believed to be responsible for Thursday's massacre in Fort Hood, Tex.
"When we have to encounter and hear of such horrific acts of violence, whether they be on the streets of Chicago, whether they be in Texas, they shudder and make us recoil," said Rami Nashashibi of the Inner City Muslim Action Network.

ISNA Condemns Attacks on Fort Hood Soldiers & Expresses Condolences to the Victims & Their Families
(Washington, DC, Nov. 5, 2009) The Islamic Society of North America condemns in the strongest terms the attack on soldiers at Fort Hood, resulting in the murder of at least a dozen soldiers and the wounding of many others. We express our deepest condolences to the victims and their families.
Although many details of the shooting are unknown at this time, it appears that the attack was led by a career soldier, Major Nidal Malik Hasan. The soldier who led this attack was either mentally unstable, or was motivated by a perverted ideology for which there can be no justification.
ISNA is proud of the many Muslim men and women who serve loyally in the United States military. We are grateful for the sacrifices made by all US soldiers, who represent the religious, racial and ethnic diversity of America, to defend the Constitution and our national security. ISNA, a faith endorser of US Muslim military chaplains, is proud of the service they provide, offering comfort and support to people of all faiths and beliefs. Just today, ISNA's chaplain endorser, Dr. Louay Safi, conducted a workshop at the US army base in Fort Bliss, Texas.
ISNA will be holding a press conference with national Muslim leaders to address this incident tomorrow morning. Time and location will be announced later tonight.
For more information, please contact
* Imam Mohamed Hagmagid Ali, Vice President of ISNA at: 571-437-4734 or 571-437-9566 or,
* Dr. Louay Safi, ISNA's Director of Communications and Leadership Development and chaplain endorser at: 317-679-6350.

U.S. Muslims Condemn Attack at Fort Hood
Posted 11/5/2009 6:15:00 PM
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 11/5/09) - A prominent national Muslim civil rights and advocacy group tonight condemned an attack on Fort Hood military base in Texas that left at least 12 people dead.
In a statement, the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said:
“We condemn this cowardly attack in the strongest terms possible and ask that the perpetrators be punished to the full extent of the law. No religious or political ideology could ever justify or excuse such wanton and indiscriminate violence. The attack was particularly heinous in that it targeted the all-volunteer army that protects our nation. American Muslims stand with our fellow citizens in offering both prayers for the victims and sincere condolences to the families of those killed or injured.”
Along with innumerable condemnations of terror, CAIR has in the past launched an online anti-terror petition drive called “Not in the Name of Islam,” initiated a television public service announcement (PSA) campaign against religious extremism and coordinated a “fatwa,” or Islamic religious ruling, against terrorism and extremism.

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
